How Do I Prepare for a 4D Ultrasound

4D Ultrasound

Preparing for a 4D ultrasound can be an exciting time for expectant parents who are eager to meet their new bundle of joy. Ensure You’re Far Enough Along

4D ultrasounds are typically performed after the 20th week of pregnancy to ensure an image clear enough for viewing. Although the earlier a 4D ultrasound is done, the more accurate it will be, if it’s done too early, your baby might still be too small to get any good images.

Eat and Drink Plenty

In order for the ultrasound to be successful, you will need a full bladder. Eating and drinking an hour or two before your appointment can help you achieve that goal. It’s best to drink plenty of water rather than soda or juice.

Dress Comfortably

When getting ready for your 4D ultrasound, dress comfortably and avoid wearing tight clothing that may restrict your movement. Loose-fitting clothing is recommended, as you will likely be asked to move a bit during the ultrasound session.

Be Prepared for a Long Session

4D ultrasounds are typically longer than traditional ultrasounds. The length of time can vary from one imaging center to another, but the majority of these sessions last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour.
